Sophie Masson
Born in Indonesia of French parents who are themselves of very mixed ancestry--Basque, Spanish, Portuguese, French Canadian and French--Sophie Masson came to Australia as a child, and lived most of her childhood shuttling between France and Australia, and the languages of French and English!
She is the author of nearly thirty books, all novels, for children, adults, and young adults. Her most recent adult novel is Forest of Dreams, a three-part historical fantasy novel based on the life and work of the important 12th century French poet, Marie de France, who with her contemporary Chretien de Troyes, was one of the first Continental European writers to use the legend of Arthur in her work. Her most recent YA novel is The Firebird, based on the Russian fairytale of the same name.
Her work has been published in the UK, US, Germany and Italy as well as Australia, and her first play, based on her novel of the same name, The Green Prince, was performed last year. She is at present working on an adult novel based directly on Chretien de Troyes' magnificent narrative poem, The Knight of the Cart, the first ever to mention Lancelot, and his love for Guinevere.
